Preparing for Your NHS Ear Wax Removal Appointment

Olive Oil Pre-Treatment is Required

  • You will need to have used olive oil spray or drops, twice daily for a minimum of 14 days before your appointment with us. Always read the label.
  • Additionally, it is important to continue using olive oil daily, right up until the date of your appointment.
  • Olive oil products are available from your local pharmacy.
  • If you have not used olive oil for at least two weeks prior to your appointment then please contact us to rebook your appointment.
  • * Always read the label

Please Note:

If you have any previous history of ear operations, perforated eardrums or have been previously advised against the use of ear drops, then always seek further medical advice prior to olive oil use. If olive oil use causes discomfort, dizziness or irritation/itching of the skin then discontinue and discuss with your GP.

Looking After Your Ears

Do not insert any objects into your ears (e.g. cotton buds, matchsticks, and hair pins). The use of ear candles may result in serious injury and does not help get rid of excessive wax.
