An essential task before undertaking any healthcare treatment .

  • High Definition Loupe Magnification

Microsuction is safe and comfortable because our audiologists can view the position of wax clearly with high definition loupe magnification.

  • Medical Referral Where Necessary

Sometimes the problem is not wax but another medical condition e.g ear infection, ear discharge. Some of these conditions have the same symptoms as ear wax e.g. hearing loss, feeling of blockage, tinnitus etc. We are able to refer you, where medical treatment is required.

  • Microsuction Ear Wax Removal

We have carry out over 2500 ear wax removals per year ! The NHS refer their patients to us as a Trusted Provider that meets their stringent healthcare standards. We were one of the first audiology centres in London to practice Microsuction ear wax removal. Our experience and safety standards are second to none.

  • Inclusive Follow-Up Appointments

Occasionally wax is too hard and impacted to suction. A short course of olive oil ear drops may be required to soften the wax in preparation for a follow-up appointment. Our consultation fee includes unlimited repeat visits until excessive ear wax is removed.

  • Hearing Test

No audiological treatment is complete without the testing of the patient’s hearing where hearing loss is ordinarily an issue. Regular routine hearing checks are recommended and we make the hearing test available to all our ear wax removal patients at no extra charge.

  • Tympanometry Diagnostic

This is a further diagnostic test may be needed if wax shows to be insignificant . A feeling of blockage may seem wax related to the patient, but a full assessment with Tympanometry can reveal the presence of an entirely different condition that needs to be managed. Tympanometry is a very safe, objective test of middle-ear function.

  • Bespoke Self-Care Plan

After the assessment and treatment, we will be in a position to provide you with a bespoke self-care plan to ensure repeat visits are minimised, or eliminated.

FAQ

How long does Microsuction take?

Often, wax can be removed within minutes. Typically it takes 15-30 minutes.

How Does Microsuction Work?

A light, blunt probe is inserted a short way into the ear canal. The probe gently suctions wax out. The procedure is carried out in full view, using loupe magnification to see exactly where to suction excessive wax. Microsuction is safe, comfortable and quick.

Do I need to take drops to soften the wax?

This is usually not necessary with Microsuction. However, we recommend applying olive oil drops or spray (twice a day) from the day you book the appointment, until the day of the appointment. (Always read the label) This may serve to assist in the quick removal of wax.

What are the symptoms of excessive ear wax?

Symptoms can be quite wide-ranging but include the following: hearing loss, tinnitus ('ringing in the ears'), itchiness, blocked feeling, earache, irritability and disorientation.

I am not sure if I have a wax problem. What if it is something else?

We will look into your ear canals and assess if you have excessive ear wax. If there is not any excessive wax then the reason for your symptoms may be something else. We can then refer you to our in-house Audiological Physician without the need for a referral from your GP (We are clinically fully integrated with the in-house Audiological Medicine department but this is run under a separate company entity.) Or, you can return to your GP and seek medical advice from them. For the assessment, without the ear wax removal treatment we charge £25.

What if some wax is too hard to remove first time? Do I need to pay for a follow up appointment?

We nearly always remove excessive wax the first time. Occasionally, wax needs softening using olive oil spray / drops for a return visit to remove more wax. There is no charge for repeat visits. The £85 charge covers multiple appointments should you need it.

Can you use the older method of syringe or irrigation?

Occasionally, there may be a need to use ear syringe or irrigation in combination with microsuction. We are able to use these methods but we will always use microsuction as the preferred method and will rarely need to use any other technique.
